Workout Wednesday: Zumba

Tired of your same old workout routine? Looking to try something completely new with your friends? Well, here's your Workout Wednesday...Zumba! Don't be fooled by the lively dance moves or the blaring pop music. Not only will you be having the time of your life, but you will be engaging in a killer workout as well!



According to Ace Fitness, one singular Zumba class burns upwards of 370 calories which is about 9.5 kcal per minute! Not only this, but participating in a Zumba class will get your heart rate up over 150 beats per minute. As we have learned in previous blog posts, it is essential to get at least 50 minutes of cardio each day 3-4 times a week along with muscle strengthening exercises. Zumba is a full body workout and is also an aerobic workout that is high energy and fun.


The moves included in a Zumba workout target core strengthening muscles and improve balance throughout your entire body. Check out your university's local recreational center to see if there are any Zumba classes being offered. And if not, head over to Yelp to find a nearby studio. Remember, don't be intimidated if you struggle during your first class. Like anything, mastering a Zumba routine takes time and practice. But I promise you one thing- you most definitely will have a blast while learning!
